Ella Bradley G/SF (St Peters School Cambridge)
I think the closest person to taking that No.1 spot from Charlisse is in her own team. Ella Bradley has the right herself to really make a statement for why she should be considered. She can cover 3 other positions from Point Guard to Small Forward, she has good handles, can shoot the ball with range, passing very well, gets up and down the court and can close out games as well when given the ball. Ella to me with Charlisse in the team will be option 1A with seconds to go in the game but would be a massive 1A option to go with when a drawn up play is designed.
Isabelle Cook G (Opunake HS)
Another guard you should keep a watch for is Isabelle out of Opunake HS who is very, very underrated in the public eye because of the small Basketball Program she comes from but has been picked out as one of the best in the country. Making NZ U16 and MVP of the “A” Nationals making her one of the players to watch this year. Someone who is non stop on the court finding opportunities to “pop” that shot off coming off screens, she also is very good at going to the hoop and finishing but can also drive the lane draw in the defence to the key hole and then finding the open player for open shots.
Parris Mason G/SF (New Plymouth GHS)
Parris Mason I think would make a great No.1 player in the country because of the way she can addapt to situational Basketball with her versitilty to play both Shooting Guard and Small Forward. She can make a massive difference because she is to fast for the taller girls and to tall for the smaller guard put pressure on her. She has a good set shot that she can make off screens or create on her own off the dribble. I like her because she will also give you 7-9 rebounds and a few assists to give your team an all rounder feeling to it and give help to the Guards and Forwards to lighten the pressure off them.
Leni-Lia Moanau PF (St Mary’s College, Wellington)
A tough player inside and who has set herself as a player you dont want to battle down low with, Leni is going to be a problem for a lot of players this year. She has excellent balance and control down on the blocks and can score inside in a lot of different ways. Leni will always give you the hustle points and offensive boards when she plays and that is one thing I would lean on this year with her playing. It is always good to have players that will get after everything just to make a play for their team. Getting a bit more range on her shot is maybe something we can all look forward to this year when watching Leni and if done she is going to take over.
Ashlee Strawbridge F (Ashburton College)(Pictured)
One of the strongest players coming out of the South Island Ashlee is another one of those duel threat players that you really have to be careful of because she has a lot of ways to dominate a game. One thing I do like is the way she can get the rebound, immediately get the ball out and then she’s off trailing as a top of the key shooter or for a cut down into the key hole for a lay up. Ashlee has a good motor on her and she will give a full effort the whole time and will fill the stat sheet as well making her the duel threat i think she will be this year.
