Rosmini College My Pick to Win Another Title

Rosmini College I think are going to make it a another Title run this year, Rosmini College has been so dominate in Basketball over the last 2 years and it looks like that again. North Harbor Basketball on it’s own is so far ahead of everyone else that sometime it feels unfair, like the 1A of 1st XV Rugby. The Basketball Program at “Rozza” is doing something great and that is winning National Titles for Basketball. I know a little about what that feels like being at a school that is so dominate at sports.I went a Basketball school myself Church College of New Zealand, where our CCNZ Girls team went on 14 year run of winning National Titles and our boys won 10 Titles in 16 years or something like that and what it does to a school is set a standard and Rosmini is doing that now.

I have been doing 1st XV Rugby for the past 5 years and so I liken this Rosmini College team to the Hastings BHS 1st XV team where Rosmini should have maybe 5 NZ players this year in there team. They will have 4 to 5 players in the Top 10 players in the Nation and could have the No.1 and No.2 best players in the country. Rosmini College lose some very good players this year in William Heather who took care of the defence in the middle and put his body on the line to protect the rim. Also add Peter Jenkins and Matthew Sokol to that list of players and you think ok they will have some weaknesses to fix up on the drawing board. As High School sports goes Rosmini College have picked up Super Star Forward Kainoa Lepou from Hamilton BHS who is a NZ Rep player through the grades and he will be able to fulfill some of those gaps left open by the departure of those 3 players. Kainoa an uptempo hustler that goes after the ball on defence has quick feet and can close driving lanes fast and also be in your face so much you pick up the dribble early then trap you. Kaino will also bring a huge work ethic to the team and a very good mid range shooting game and also a strong drive to the basket. They have also added Tom Seuren from St Pauls Collegiate and so they do go deep into the bench and Tom will add his work load to the bench and be a great second group that comes on.

Now Rosmini College have already got a team stacked full of talent and they are Division 1 quality players and so the way I see it they will have maybe 5 Division 1 Scholarship players just from this team, most American High Schools dont get that. Kruz Perrott-Hunt is one of the players to watch this year as he was a massive reason for this team coming together and going through the year as good as they were. Kruz averaged 14.5 Points Per Game a long with 6 Rebounds, 4.5 Assists and 2.5 Steals at Nationals. So you can sort of tell what I mean about how well he can control a game get players in the right spots and also handle his own covering on defence. Another class player is Mitchell Dance another player I have thought about as the No.1 player in the country and he can really ball out with a huge 18 Points Per Game and 8 boards to go a long with it at Nationals. He is probably the most dominate player in NZ right now and he can turn anything into a chance to score points and get to the free throw line. Mitchell averaged 4.5 offensive rebounds making him a high level energy player that keeps with the play. The last player that I think will be a Top 10 player in the country is Marvin Williams-Dunn and for a guy that is some what a 3rd option? In this team he averages 14 points a game and so really he would be any other teams first option. He adds 3.5 boards and 3 assists to those 14 points and those stats come into use when your clearing the boards ready to run the court or making that extra pass for an easy bucket. Marvin maybe the guy that makes this team work and click.

If your not convinced with guys like that they have others returning from last year like Reihana Maxwell-Topia, Taine Murray, Cian Emery, Jayden Boucher and a few others. This year for Rosmini College having a starting 5 like Marvin Williams-Dunn, Kainoa Lepou, Kruz Perrott-Hunt, Mitchell Dance and Reihana Maxwell-Topia Im not sure other schools in NZ can keep up with that or even hang around with them late in games. The season still needs to be played, there still needs to be a jump ball, tournaments still need to completed and a “Crown” needs to be placed, Im just picking Rozza to take that “Crown”.
