HS Top 200’s Top 5 Fullback’s for 2018

Drew Wild (Feilding HS)

I think Drew is going to be the player that comes out of no where and shocks a lot of you guys with how good he actually is, even for people that know him and know how good he is I think he has a lot more to show. I have seen him over the last two years really build himself as a player not only from a skills side of things but even a physical side too. Drew was not the biggest guy at the beginning of last year but has put on some real much needed muscles and added to his game in a way that he has been able to break more tackles. I expect him to be one of the best players around this year and really putting his name up front as a NZSS player ready to go later this year. He runs, kicks, passes, defends, controls direction and pace, leads and keeps that back field safe. I see him as the No.1 Fullback in the country right now.

Ryan Barnes (Christchurch BHS)

Ryan is a very smart Fullback and very traditional in the way he plays the game. He steps up to the situations in front of him with a mind set of creating opportunities for himself or him wingers. When kicks go down field you see Ryan already looking for spaces he can expose and open up for even more meters up the field, Ryan is the Fullback you want if your a Winger and you want heaps of tries. If you see Ryan he is not the biggest guy, doesnt weigh very much at all either but does make every situation and opportunity count. I see this year being a real big for him and NZSS is really something that could be in his future.

Caleb Leef (Takapuna GS)

As a tall, lanky kind of player, that is very very talented he brings so many problems to a team trying to defend him. When you watch him play he reminds you of Shaun Steveson from Auckland GS and the Chiefs. Caleb makes you worry about your defencive line when you kick it down field because he can really expose terrible defenders or defenders that are not sure what to do in those situations. Caleb is actually pretty strong too and can break tackles and use his fend effectively. I really like his kicking game when he’s looking down field for open space and free grass because he has a big kick and is very accurate, so watch for that when your going against him and just know that he can make plays with the kick too.

Aidan Morgan (Kings College) Y12

He maybe young but he has already showed his cards and what he can do and he is set to blow up this year. Aidan will play Fullback/1st 5/8 this year and I think once he makes that full change will be a strong 1st 5/8 but  for now I have him in at Fullback. He is a very talent guy that takes chances, has a strong drive to win and plays the game with everything he has. He knows where to attack and how to get his team into the game. He will be one of the Top player in Year 12 this years Top 100 and is one of my picks to make NZSS as a Year 12.

Eric Ah-Hing (De La Salle College)

After seeing Eric as  Year 11 player I knew that he was going to be a talented player and someone to keep an eye on. He is really one of those guys that you can get behind and he’ll make things work. He is a very solid runner when returning the ball, he makes great decisions and he can kick as well. I see Eric being under estimated a lot because of his size but when you watch him through out the game and what he does, his worth to a team is clear. De La Salle College has a very strong leader in their team and he’ll show what he can do in his last year at school.

Roderick Solo (Scots College) Y12
Ryeli Samuels (Auckland GS) Y12
David Nanai (Dilworth School)
Isaak Te Hiwi (Otago BHS)
Ben Kelt (Wanganui Collegiate)
