Hurricanes U17 Coaching Camp

This is a very strong group of players that have really grown through out this whole year and then really backed it up with skillful performances at the U16 Hurricanes Tournament with most of them being selected into the Tournament team as well. They will meet on Sunday 11th December in Wellington. The core rugby components of the one-day Camp are based on: the “Pathway Forward”; Nutrition; Mental Skills and Physical Conditioning, as part of providing an insight to the world of professional rugby. Included among the presenters for the day are Matt Sexton from New Zealand Rugby, Chris Stirling from the Hurricanes, together with other subject matter specialists in the areas noted above.

I think they’ve really gone out and found a good mix of talent from all over the region, they have got more and more kids from Hastings BHS and Napier BHS who have done some real strong work building their rugby programs and it’s paying off. Wellington have a good number of players in there with a few guys missing from teams like Porirua College, Bishop Viard College and even Rongotai College but happy Ropati So’oalo, Esara Andrews and Maui Wallace got noticed and selected. Palmerston North BHS I thought might have more players in there but Feilding HS and Manukura have also done great getting players selected as well, but look out for Nikora Broughton from Hato Paora College and also Potene Rolls-Paewai coming out of Manukura.

Gisborne BHS have always had strong players selected and Dylan Hall is a player at Open Side that should have a big year next year as well as Braedyn Grant. Kapati College had a very good year this year and have 3 guys rewarded with a trip to the camp which is huge for the program they have growing there. Henry Fonoti out of Waiopehu College and also Falesau Tauailoto from Rangitikei are boys that you should watch for and would make strides with a camp like to learn more from, also there are always new players that come up and William Martin is that kid and he comes from Te Waha O Rerekohu and I would personally be keen to see how good he is because he could be that next Star coming out of this successful camp the Hurricanes hold.

I thought I would also put the Hurricanes U16 Tournament team for those that have not seen it from this year.
